Sons of the Sun Thought Master, a renowned Taoist and medical scholar of the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Sui Tang period, excelled in yin-yang studies, astronomical calculations (astronomy), and medicine. His book "Emergency Thousand Gold Essentials" proposed the idea of "Great Medicine with Great Integrity," an important treatise on medical ethics that all aspiring physicians must read.
The text emphasizes that great doctors must possess two qualities: first is precision, requiring physicians to have refined medical skills; second is sincerity, urging them to cultivate noble moral character by empathizing with patients' suffering as if it were their own. This high moral standard earned him reverence as "the Medicine King."
According to his biography in Old Book of Tang: "Sons of Thought Master was from Huayuan in Jingzhao (now Yuxian County, Shaanxi Province). At seven years old he began studying daily reciting over a thousand characters. Upon reaching adulthood he was well-versed in Confucianism and Buddhism, as well as various philosophical schools." The governor general Du Hongyan praised him saying: 'This is a saintly boy but alas! He has abilities beyond measure yet lacks opportunity.' During Emperor Wen's reign he became a doctor at the Imperial Academy but declined due to illness.
In 649 AD during Emperor Gaozong's reign he served as Grand Counselor despite declining multiple times before eventually returning home whereupon he was granted horses and land by imperial decree.
During this time prominent scholars such as Song Lingwen Meng Qi Lu Zhonglin paid homage to him like students would pay respects to their teachers.
However an account within Old Book of Tang raises questions about Sons' true age - born supposedly during the Kaihuang era when there were no records available for births until 93 years later which would make him hundreds or even thousands years old according to local accounts who witnessed events from past dynasties including those from Zhou Wei Liang Chen Sui periods making it seem like seeing history unfold before one's eyes while remaining youthful vigorous and healthy without any signs aging thus earning reputation for being eternal wise sage descending dragon subduing tiger protecting nation saving people inspiring thought master sons wisdom divine
